George VanAmeyden, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, in Galesburg, Michigan. George graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School in 1958. He was a member of the National Guard, Kalamazoo Rod and Gun Club, and retired from Xerox. His children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews have great memories of motorcycling, snowmobiling, dune buggy riding, boating, kayaking, and skiing with George. He also shared his love of hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He enjoyed the lakes, rivers, and trails of Lake County, Michigan, where he had a cottage on Loon Lake. He was known as a mischievious prankster with a great sense of humor. George was the ultimate handyman and was always willing to help anyone with any project. George was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Orilla VanAmeyden. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, June (Piper) VanAmeyden, brother Charles (Frances) VanAmeyden, his daughters Kim (Matt) Thomas and Lori (Brian) Janssen, grandchildren Brooke (Casey) Bennett, Hunter Thomas, Ryan Janssen, and Jake Janssen and many nieces and nephews. The family is hosting a celebration of life at the Augusta Custer VFW Post 7956, 13549 W. M-96, Augusta, MI on Saturday, April 30, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Kalamazoo River Alliance. Service Details.
