Obituary

George Lee Kaiser of Newaygo, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on December 11, 2024, in Fremont, MI, after a valiant battle with cancer. He died peacefully during a brief stay at the Newaygo County Compassion House, thanks to the tender-hearted care of its staff.

Born 77 years ago in Muskegon, MI, George's life journey was marked by dedication, compassion, and a zest for life that left an indelible mark on those around him.

After graduating from Fremont High School in 1965, George acquired multiple professional certifications that would serve him well in his varied career. George worked for car dealerships in the parts department and then as a mechanic before moving into lawn and garden equipment sales and service. He briefly owned a small engine repair shop in Rockford and eventually retired from George Hofacker Lawn & Garden Equipment in Walker following many years of devoted service.

Yet, it was his time as a paramedic at the former Bud's Ambulance in Grand Rapids that stood out as his most memorable and fulfilling work. He often entertained family and friends with fascinating and heartfelt stories from his paramedic days, involving dangers he faced, the lives he touched, and many unforgettable experiences, including the thrill of delivering newborns whose mothers couldn't make it to the hospital.

A social butterfly, George thrived on the connections he made with others. With his unique humor and captivating storytelling, George could light up any room and hold his audience spellbound with tales from his past. The City Limits Restaurant was a favorite haunt, where he engaged in lively conversation over a good meal with other regulars. In prior years, he enjoyed hunting, shooting, golfing, cross-country skiing, and attending his son's and later his grandchildren's sporting events and performances.

In addition to son David Kaiser of Holland, MI, George is survived by daughter-in-law, Linda Kaiser; the grandchildren who made him proud, Alex Kaiser, Max Kaiser, and Ellie (Nate) Knobloch; and a great-grandchild who was a source of great delight for George. He is also survived by first wife Carol Veenstra Kaiser, the mother of David; and sisters Ruth Ann (formerly Bob Krupa; currently Gayle) Van Asdale of Florida and Virginia "Ginny" (John) Outwin of Alabama. Predeceased by his parents, Willard and Ethel Kaiser, and his long-time partner, Sally Grant, George's memory will stand out in the minds of many who knew him.

A memorial service, to be held in the spring of 2025, will be announced in this space at a later date.
