Obituary

Gary Pryor Voet of Grandville, MI, (formally Wyoming Park, MI), age 89, passed away October 26, 2022. He was born to William Sr. and Evelyn Voet on April 24, 1933 in Grand Rapids, MI. Gary was the older brother of William Voet, Jr. He was a 1952 graduate of Wyoming Park High School where he was a member of the football team. He also earned a business degree from Davenport Institute, (now Davenport University). Gary was based in Tokyo, Japan for 1 1/2 years with the U.S. Army. He and his wife, Marcia, made many long-lasting friendships while traveling around Japan. They were married 27 years. They had 3 children, Vicky, Vonnie and Eric. After their divorce in 1984 he enjoyed the companionship of Natalie Rawlings from 1984 until 2015. Gary loved to go to his grandnieces and grandnephews athletic games. He always had a listening ear and was so very patient and kind. When family and friends needed him he was ready to lend a helping hand. As he always said "Don't wait to be told what needs to be done"! He never met a stranger and was always considerate of how others felt.

Gary loved driving...being on the road making deliveries for the various trucking companies he worked for. His favorite deliveries were flowers as it put a smile on people's faces. His most cherished job was personnel director of Conway Corporation because he was able to really help people. No matter what he always did his best with a great attitude. He attended Grandville United Methodist Church for many years including as an usher and member of Methodist Men.

Gary was happy spending time at Mel Dill's barn helping to care for his daughter Vicky's horses and driving them to horse shows. A horse she gave him 10 years later he still liked caring for more then riding! Gary also loved old cars. He had a Model-T as a young adult and would keep it "spic and span." Gary traveled domestically as well as internationally. He went with his flight attendant daughter Vonnie to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, New Zealand and Nova Scotia. He also spent quality time in Hawaii while she lived there. Gary and his son Eric shared many happy experiences together and especially enjoyed discussing their common interest in cars.

Gary is survived by Marcia Voet; his children, Vicky Voet (Alan Lang), Vonnie Voet (Rick Reuther) and Eric Voet; brother and sister-in-law, William & Joyce Voet; nephews, Scott (Kasey Trombley) and Greg (Lisa) Voet; grandnephews, Travis (Olivia), Zachary and Maxwell Voet; grandnieces, McKenzie, Zoe Voet and Samantha (Erin) Hillary; great-grandnephew, Ford Hillary; Midas and many other rescued granddogs and grandcats.
The family would like to thank Emmanuel Hospice for their care and compassion during the final month of his life.
A memorial was held at Wyoming Park High School's football field on the 50 yard line, November 2, 2022. Gary would say that's where he had "the best of times!" Service Details.
