Obituary

Gary Calvin Swope, 66, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away on September 15, 2021. He was born to Robert Swope and Garlene Keuvelaar in Grand Rapids, MI on May 27, 1955. Gary was the oldest of 11 children. He worked at Steelcase for 32 years.

Gary lived a life full of many diverse passions and interests, including riding bucking horses in rodeos, cruising motorcycles in the mountains, competing in ballroom dancing contests, running marathons, and creating large and masterful works of art in many forms. He was fond of the phrase "life is good," and took the time to notice and appreciate others and the small moments of everyday life. He loved his family dearly, and cherished opportunities to ride, run, dance, or create with them.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Heather Swope Pinaud and Jean-Paul Pinaud, and grandchildren Luc and Clara. He is also survived by the mother of his daughter, Sheryl Van Koevering, and brothers and sisters: Robert and Terri Keuvelaar, Leon Keuvelaar, Jim and Jenny Keuvelaar, Janet and Rory Kidder, Joanie Keuvelaar, Paulene Amaya, Rex and Julie Keuvelaar, Shawn and Kerri Keuvelaar, Peggy and Tom Jablonski, Robin Keuvelaar, and many extended family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Robert Swope and Garlene and Bob Keuvelaar, as well as his grandmother Bessie Longcore.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 1pm in Cedar Springs, MI. Please email celebrategary21@gmail.com for additional information and to RSVP. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Hospice.
