Obituary

Gary Lee Overdorf, 67, of Grand Haven, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2025, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Born on October 9, 1958, Gary grew up in Freesoil and spent much of his life in the Ludington area before making his home in Grand Haven with his family.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his service, he worked as a dedicated cook and later retired from Brenda's Café, where he was known for his hard work, quick wit, and the friendships he built along the way.

He loved simple joys — spending time with friends, visiting the state park, and relaxing with an ice-cold Bud Light. But above all, the greatest highlight of Gary's life was his family, especially his niece Kayla and her son Kolson, who meant the world to him.

Gary is survived by his niece, Kayla (Kevin) Danks, and her son Kolson. He is also lovingly remembered by his niece Jennie Kasbohm and her four siblings Kevin Overdorf, April King, Trista Counterman, and Elizabeth Helfrich, and extended family who loved him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lorianne Overdorf, and his siblings Calvin Overdorf, Robert Overdorf, Rondell Socher, and Joann Kalisch, His niece Phyllis Overdorf and his nephew Roy Socher. And his dear friends Richard and Cheryl Devers.

Cremation has taken place through Ofield Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be at the Hamlin Town Hall in Ludington on November 30, 2025 at 3pm to celebrate Gary's life and the many people he touched.

Memorial contributions in Gary's honor may be made to the Danks family.

Gary will be remembered for his big heart, his easy laugh, and the way his presence could light up a room. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
