Frederick Thomas Thurston, age 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 21, 2021. He is preceded by his father Horace and mother Rosabel and his wife of 55 years, Sandra Lynne (VandenBout) Thurston. He is survived by children, Steven F. (Cynthia) Thurston, Russell F. (Jan) Thurston, Lynne T. (Mitch) Cripe, nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and stepbrothers/sisters Jon Thurston, Victoria (Thurston) Holcombe, Marshall Slagle, and Shirley (David) Brisbin. Fred had a passion for education, teaching Industrial Arts in Grand Rapids Schools and as an Assistant Principal at Jenison HS. Teacher summers allowed him to work as a National Park Service Ranger on Isle Royale and as a Wilderness Guide for a youth camp in Montana. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, spending time with family, and making new friends. The funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Clarke Clemens on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in the ResCenter at Resurrection Life Church, 5100 Ivanrest Avenue SW, Grandville, MI 49418.
