Obituary

Mills, Franklin Nye; July 8, 1941 to January 4, 2019 We mourn the loss of our wonderful brother, Franklin Nye Mills and rejoice that he is now free and able to run, walk, and talk easily. Franklin entered heaven on January 4, 2019 at the age of 77. He had been wheel chair bound for the last few years and his life quality was not good. He always prided himself on being self-sufficient. In the last few years, he was unable to do much of anything for himself and he found this frustrating. He was 77 years old and he went peacefully surrounded by his siblings Douglas, Jeffrey, Marcia and her husband John. We were thankful to be able to tell him what a great brother he had been and how much we loved him. During the last few days he had been calling for his Mom. We feel comforted knowing that his Mother, Father, sister in law Karen. Grandma Minnie Mills and the Mills clan and Jesus were there to greet him with open arms. Even though it is a blessing his family will miss him. He has been such a big part of our lives. Franklin was a good example of someone who would keep a positive outlook and a sense of humor no matter what. He inherited that from his Father! When family members spent time with him they were always the ones who went away uplifted. Franklin has been supported over the years by many teachers, case managers, and care givers at Lincoln School, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Hope Network, Thresholds, Pine Rest and most recently by the amazing and loving staff at Skyway House. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Barbara Mills, and his precious sister in law, Karen Louise Mills. He will be greatly missed by his sister, brothers and in-laws, Douglas Nye Mills, Jeffrey Nye & Karen Mills, John W. and Marcia Harriet Kaye; nieces and nephews, Lindsay and Derek Holden and children Daniel and Jack, Jonathan Kaye, Jason Mills and sons Tyler and Dylan, Kevin Mills and Michelle Mills, Ryan and Chrissy Mills and their children Monica, Dominic, and Bella. A time for family and friends to visit with the family will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church on February 1 at 10:00 am with a service immediately following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, Thresholds or Spectrum Community Services.
