IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Foster
Buxton Iii
November 11, 1948 – June 30, 2025
Foster Buxton III., a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a valiant battle with multiple myeloma. Born on November 11, 1948, in Vossburg, Mississippi, Foster's life was a testament to his strength, resilience, and the deep love he held for his family and friends.
Foster was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Foster Buxton Sr. and Ocenia Buxton, his sister Castell Buxton, his brothers John L. Barnett and Vernon Buxton, his wife Gale Buxton, his nieces Tunia Trotter and Pam Johnson, and his nephews Jeffery Smith, Gregory Johnson, and Jermaine. Despite these profound losses, Foster's legacy continues through his family. He is survived by his daughter, Tyiesha (Leah) Buxton, his grandson, Jay Kievius Buxton, and his precious great-granddaughter, Jayda. His brothers Michael (Ruth) Buxton and Roy (Inez) Buxton, along with his sisters Sheila Buxton, Marvie Johnson, May Shackleford, and Hazel (Steve) Lewis, will forever remember his spirit. A special place in his heart was reserved for his niece Jill Johnson and great-nephew Devonair Johnson, as well as his countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Foster also leaves behind his dear friend Carolyn Vincent-Hiar, who provided companionship and support throughout his journey.
Foster proudly served his country in the Army, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of duty and honor that he carried with him always. His Christian faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through life's challenges and joys. Foster was known for his sharp sense of style and his cool walk, traits that made him unforgettable to all who knew him.
During his final days, Foster was lovingly cared for by his sister Sheila, who was a constant source of comfort and support. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Lewin, not only for his medical expertise but also for the prayers he offered after each visit, and to Dr. Jeffery Porter, whose Friday video calls were a source of encouragement. Special thanks are also due to the dedicated staff of Gentiva Hospice, Faith Hospice, and SKLD Nursing Home, who provided exceptional care. Pastor Mike, Allison, and Steve of Faith Hospice were always just a phone call away, and their presence was a blessing to Foster and his family.
Foster's life was a journey of love, service, and faith. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by the many lives he touched. As we say farewell to Foster Buxton Jr., we celebrate the enduring impact he made on the world and the legacy of kindness and strength he leaves behind.
