May 16, 2014 Floyd J. (Flip) Van Raalte died on May 16, 2014 at the age of 91. He was born in Holland, MI in 1923, the youngest of five children of John and Nora (Keeler) Van Raalte. Floyd graduated from Holland High School in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Navy on June 11, 1943 and served during WWII as an Aviation Machinist's Mate Third Class. He was honorably discharged in 1946. In March, 1945 he married Anna Marie Day in Grand Haven, MI. They lived most of their married life in Homewood, IL. Flip worked in downtown Chicago for Standard Oil. They both loved England and spent many vacations there. In 1985 they moved full time to Douglas, MI where they previously had spent much time at Marie's family cottage. Marie passed away in 1995. In addition to his wife Marie, Flip was preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings, Albert Van Raalte, John K. Van Raalte, Dora Schurman and Samuel Van Raalte. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the West Michigan area and elsewhere in the country. The family thanks the staff of Elmcroft of Kentwood and as well as Arlene Philp for their care of Flip during his last years.
