April 30, 2013 Service: May 3, 2013 Mrs. Erna Mae Patterson, aged 83 of Kentwood, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Merritt "Pat" Patterson, her son Patrick Patterson, and her brother Ted Van Antwerp. She is survived by her sons Brian (Diane) Patterson, Kevin Patterson, and Michael Patterson. She was blessed with seven grandchildren (Kevin, Nicole, Tuesday, Katy, Michael, Caitlyn, and Ryan), sister-in-law Rita VanAntwerp, and nephews Ted and Richard. Erna graduated from Catholic Central high school in 1947. She worked as a sales clerk in the Herpolsheimers store downtown, fell in love with Merritt and was married in October, 1952. She was a devoted wife and mother who excelled in cooking, loved watching her sons play sports, and enjoyed her tennis. She was the epitome of compassion and caring, who opened her heart and home for all. Visitation will be Thursday, May 2nd from 6-8pm and 10-10:30am Friday, May 3rd, with a memorial service following at 10:30am at the Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE. Luncheon to follow at Brann's Conference Center 4945 S. Division Wyoming, MI 49548. Private interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
