Obituary

Eric Lyons, 62, passed away on Tuesday September 3, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, two sons, Michael (Genevieve) and Kevin (Heather), granddaughter Cora, and his brother, Mark (Cindy). Eric is also survived by many beloved sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Eric proudly graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture (BLA). He had a passion for helping others and for the arts. Eric expressed these passions through his work as a professional landscape architect designing public spaces including parks, streetscapes, riverfronts and playgrounds. Outside of work, he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, the Grand Rapids Kids Food Basket, and offered arts and crafts activities for children in the migrant farmworking community. He also spent many hours at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) creating positive and uplifting sculptures from ceramics and welded metal. A funeral mass is planned for Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MI (1449 Wilcox Park Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506). The family will receive visitors before mass, beginning at 8:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Grand Rapids Area Kids Food Basket (https://www.kidsfoodbasket.org/), Habitat for Humanity (https://habitatkalamazoo.org/support-us/donate-now/), or the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts School in memory of Eric Lyons (https://www.kiarts.org/ecomm_product.php?product_id=94).
