Emory Carroll Floyd, 77, from Douglas, Georgia, passed away on October 11, 2018 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Emory was born in Douglas, Georgia, to Rachel Carelock McClain on December 24, 1940. He went on to attend Coffee County High School and complete two years of high education. He achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force. The highlights of his Air Force career include being stationed overseas in Turkey and Thailand, being a part of the Titan ICBM crew, and later being stationed in Barksdale Air Force Base. After 20 years of honorable service he was discharged. He then went on to retire from the United States Postal Service. He was actively involved in the Free Masons and Shriners for many years. He attained the rank of 32nd Degree Mason. Additionally, he held the roles of secretary and later Master of his local Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the El Karubah Shrine Temple in Shreveport, Louisiana. Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed working outdoors, especially when riding his tractor. He took great pride in renovating the "Old Farm House" where he was reared, located in Coffee County, Georgia. Emory is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Hutto Floyd, formally of Douglas, Georgia. He is also survived by his only child, Carla Floyd Slabaugh, her spouse, Tony Slabaugh, and their three children, Jacob, Caleb and Elizabeth Slabaugh, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
