Elizabeth (Bette) Louise Vail, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in Grand Rapids Michigan. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Joseph Jacob and Helen Shepherd Bering. Bette earned her Bachelor and Master degrees from Purdue University and was a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was a food service director, adjunct professor, substitute teacher and cancer survivor. She was a hard-working independent mother who deeply loved her girls, granddaughters and family. Her greatest pleasure was simply spending time with them. Bette was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Bering Sr; mother, Helen Bering and brother, Joseph Bering Jr. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Mary) Bering; daughters, Gilann (Bill) Vail-Boisvenue and Susan Hiaeshutter; granddaughters, Mallarie Hiaeshutter and Christie Anderson; nephews, Robert (Heather) Bering, Michael (Valerie) Bering, Chris (Julie) Bering, Steve (Kathy) Bering, Jake (Ann) Bering and John Bering. The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Clark Retirement Home and Great Lakes Hospice. Funeral and Burial will be on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Crowne Hill Cemetery in the Gothic Chapel (700 38th St, Indianapolis, IN 46208) The Funeral Mass will be at 12 noon.
