Obituary

Eliana Hernaez Haute, of Grand Rapids, passed away on July 8 at home at the age of 95. Born on June 4, 1931, in Santiago, Chile, she carried with her a rich heritage as a proud Spanish citizen, along with a generous spirit and a lifelong commitment to faith, family, and service.

She was a woman of strong Catholic faith whose kindness and devotion touched many lives. She had a deep love for the Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary with her family every day, drawing strength, comfort, and peace from her faith. Her life reflected that devotion through quiet acts of love, prayer, generosity, and compassion.

Throughout her life, she found joy in helping others, especially children and families in need. She lovingly supported efforts to deliver toys and school supplies to children, bringing encouragement and hope to those who needed it most. Her compassionate heart also led her to support the Knights of Columbus, God’s Kitchen, and outreach events serving people experiencing homelessness. She believed deeply in caring for others and lived that belief through faithful service.

She also found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved spending time at the lake, playing with her grandchildren, tending to her garden, and keeping current with the news. These moments reflected her curiosity, warmth, and deep appreciation for family and everyday life.

Above all, she cherished her family. She is survived by her daughter, Cecilia Eickholt, and Cecilia’s husband, David; her granddaughter, Ashley Hollenbeck, and Ashley’s husband, Jimmy; and her grandsons, Thomas Marklevtz, Noah Eickholt, and Christian Eickholt.

She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, warmth, resilience, sense of humor, and the love she shared so freely with her family. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
