IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elaine Marie
Powell
October 23, 1936 – January 14, 2022
For those who knew Elaine Powell, they knew that faith and family were the most important components in her life. Not so much by the words she shared about her faith, but by the way in which she lived her life each and every day. Elaine was a woman of unwavering strength, great integrity, loving, and kindness.
As much as she was known for her strength, however, she was also known for both her kind and tender heart, and for her deep love for those she treasured most.
Elaine was a successful nurse working in different hospitals, she always said how interesting and rewarding it was to work in the mental health unit, helping those who she would reassure that things would get better and she also worked in the pediatric outpatient care and how she always stated that she wanted to care for them the best as she could.
With a life that spanned many decades, Elaine significantly impacted the hearts and lives of those within her reach.
Elaine was born on October 23, 1936, in Ishpeming, Michigan, to Raoul and Eva (Hebert) Dompierre. Elaine married Donald H. Powell after they divorced. Life greatly changed for Elaine later in life. On March 10,
1990, she was delighted to marry Jake F. Banks Jr., which also brought three step-children into her life. It was also a bit later in life that Elaine was thrilled to become a grandmother to seven grandchildren: James,
Erin, Donnie, Ryan, Brittany, Kathy, and Dustin. Six great-grandchildren: Donald D., Isabella, Thea, Slade, Nyelli, and Naveen
One of Elaine's favorite things to do was to spoil this younger generation, and it was so easy for her to do as well. She always said that if she knew having grandchildren was so much fun, she would have done that first! It was so easy to see that spending time with her family in any way always topped her list.
When she was blessed with some leisure time, there were a variety of interests that Elaine pursued. She
enjoyed crocheting, reading, fishing, traveling, and golfing just as often as she could. She also loved going for drives around Michigan, especially during the fall season when the leaves are in all their colorful majesty
With a heart that fully encompassed her family, Elaine was a deeply loving woman who viewed her greatest role to be that of grandmother. She was also a spiritual woman whose faith provided her with both peace and joy throughout her life. Elaine will be remembered as a woman of strength who always carried herself with integrity. She lived a long life that spanned times of war and times of peace, times of plenty and times of want, which all worked together to shape the remarkable woman who was treasured by so many. Elaine will be dearly missed and warmly remembered by those she leaves behind.
