Obituary

Edward Raymond Kaminski of Grand Rapids Michigan, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 17, 2021. Ed was born the oldest of five children of Harriet and Stanley Kaminski on March 24, 1929 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Ed proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He graduated from Davenport University as a professional accountant. He demonstrated his strong work ethic to all who knew him, especially his children. He had the heart of a volunteer by donating his time and skills to AARP for taxes and donating gallons of blood over the years. He was a faithful servant at St. Mary Magdalen church as an usher, eucharistic minister, and member of the Men's club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4362 where many enjoyed his service at Fish Fry dinners and Bingo. Ed was also a member of the St. Ladislaus Aid society and the American Legion Post #0208.

Ed will be remembered for many things, including his love of fishing, camping, bowling, golfing, coconut cream pie, beer, and most things chocolate. He was a savvy card player who was known to tell his set-back partners "You know what you gotta do!"

Ed most especially loved his wife Marilyn, and he made sure the kids promised to "take care of your mother." Most years he wanted to 'surprise' her on her birthday. Their love story began before Ed joined the Navy and they were married in January of 1953, shortly after he was discharged. Together they raised five children, thirteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren (with another due in December).

Ed is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, sons Michael (Jill) Kaminski and their children Matt (Emily) Kaminski, Ashley (Christopher) Spaller, Courtney Kaminski (Travis Hamstra); and Robert (Heidi) Kaminski and their children Andrew (Katie) Kaminski, Kristy (Tony) Arsulowicz, Laurie Kaminski, Cole Kaminski; and daughters Marie (Jim) Jordan and their children Adam (Jodi) Jordan, Theresa (Heather) Laxton, Nicole Decker, Nathan (Kate) Decker; Pat Holmes (Ned Subasic) and her daughter Brittany Holmes (Brian Wolff), Kathy (Randy) Carter and their children Ryan Carter and Katrina (Chad) Barnes. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara Kalinowski, sisters-in-law Germaine Kaminski, Lucy Kaminski, Ann-Marie Kaminski, and Lois Ives, and one brother-in-law Richard Koperski, and many, many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Richard, Ronald, and Thomas, and grandchild Hannah Decker.
