Douglas David Start, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated business owner, passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2025, at the age of 68.

Born on May 9, 1956, Douglas was the son of David and Jeanette Start. He was the third-generation owner of Start's Blinds and Shades, a family business he loved, which served the loyal customers of West Michigan for decades.

Douglas was a devoted family man. He was married to the love of his life, Joan Louise Start (Decker), for nearly 44 wonderful years. He was a proud father to two sons, David (Katherine) Start and Matthew (Shana) Start. His legacy continues through his five adoring grandchildren: Noah Start, Celia Start, Gwenivere Start, Morgan Start, and Quincey Start. He is also survived by his cousin, Sherrie Start.

Douglas was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Doug had a deep love for boating. One of his greatest joys was taking family trips to Mackinac Island. Those boating trips were a highlight of his life and serve as a lifetime reminder of the love he had for his family.

Douglas's kind spirit, unwavering love for his family and community will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a lifetime of memories.

A memorial service will be held in David's honor on Friday, March 14th at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 Fulton St E, Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5pm to 7pm and one hour prior to the service also at Trinity Lutheran Church.
