Douglas H. Bronkema of Grand Rapids, Michigan (formerly of Elk Rapids, Michigan) age 75 passed away peacefully on Friday December 1, 2023.

Doug was the youngest of 3 children. He graduated from Albion College where he also worked as an EMT. Doug held a private pilot license and also enjoyed hunting, scuba diving, sailing and especially spending time at the family cottage on Little Whitefish Lake. Doug enjoyed interaction with people and worked as a hospital administrator, beauty supply salesman and realtor. While living in Elk Rapids he served on the village council and was recognized by them for his several years of service to that community.

He is survived by his niece Sue Bouma (Larry), nephew David Bartholomew (Patti) and niece Julie Bartholomew.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Thelma Bronkema, brother Donald Bronkema (Pat), sister Margy Bronkema (Gordon) and the love of his life Judy Bronkema.

The family wishes to thank Corewell Health Hospice (Sherri), Holiday Aurora Pond employees and AdvisaCare of Aurora Pond (Rachel) for their wonderful compassion and help in caring for Doug. A special thanks to Patricia Perlman for all her help caring for Doug in Elk Rapids.

At his request there will be no service and cremation has taken place. His remains will be taken to Elizabethtown, Kentucky at a later date and laid to rest with Judy. Those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to their local Humane Society.
