In Loving Memory of Douglas Alan Filkins

Doug Filkins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on November 8, 2024, at the age of 59. He was born on June 8th, 1965, in Lapeer, Michigan to the late Earl and Lucille Filkins. Doug's life's journey was filled with love, dedication and cherished memories. Some knew Doug as Animal, Lefty, Bud, Earl Jr., Papa.

On August 9, 1997, he exchanged vows with Marylou Whitten in a ceremony in North Branch, MI.

Sports were a big part of Doug's life growing up. He graduated from North Branch High School in 1983, where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball which earned him a scholarship to Ferris State where he played for one season. He then embarked on a career in the service industry working at Red Lobster and Golden Corral as a cook in Florida and Georgia. Later he worked framing houses mostly in and around Stone
Mountain, Georgia. The last 13 years he drove over 1,000,000 accident-free miles as a truck driver for US Express, MTS, Dollar General and Outwest Express.

Doug is survived by his wife Marylou, daughter Katie Cash, sons Josh Cash, Cody Beau Filkins and Sam Filkins, brother Leroy (Cheryl) Filkins, sister-in-law Marti Filkins, sister Michelle (Mark) Gavalya. Five granddaughters, three grandsons and numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lucille (Atkins) Filkins, brother, Don Filkins and Kenn Filkins.

Doug leaves behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and a well-lived life. He will forever be remembered for his loving heart, his practical jokes, sense of humor, his dedication to family and friends and the joy he brought to all who knew him.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Doug's life will be held at Davison Missionary Church at 1481 N Gale Rd, Davison, MI 48423 on November 18th, 2024, at 11am with visitation at 10am. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Doug are welcome to attend and pay their final respects. There will be a luncheon immediately following. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time, and we hope that the memories of Doug will provide comfort and strength in the days ahead. May his soul rest in eternal peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
