Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Dorothy Prostko age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 27th 2022. Since 1960 Dorothy had resided in Mt. Prospect IL until March 2020 when she relocated to live with her son in Middleville MI up to her passing.

Dorothy loved her home and gardens in Mt. Prospect. She took a lot of pride and effort to take every aspect of her home to a level of perfection. She also enjoyed entertaining and made things so special that even Martha Stewart would be put to shame. Meals were exquisite, table settings picture perfect and always a little something as an added surprise for her guests. She had a flare for doing things and always looked to make an impression or put a smile on your face. To that point, it was one of her wishes that folks would remember her with a smile and say - "that Dorothy sure was some tomato!"

Family and friendships were always a special part of Dorothy's life and she cherished many good times, trips and event gatherings with those she loved. Her other love was her career which began after she graduated from Jones College Prep School and started her first job as a secretary for The Koppers Co. where she worked for 6 years. She was very proud of that first job and to have her name on the office door. She then worked for 31 years at Carson Pierri Scott where she was the cosmetics department manager for 18 years before she retired in 1998. Dorothy also worked as volunteer at the Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights IL for 20 years where she enjoyed delivering flowers and assisting.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Edward who passed in January 2017 at the age of 90 and her daughter Karla who passed in October 2019 at the age of 63. She is survived by her son David Prostko and daughter-in-law Linda of Middleville MI, son-in-law Craig Phillips of Bedminster NJ, grandson Warren Prostko and Terri Prostko, grandson JD Prostko and great grandchildren Hudson and Rory Prostko. She will be missed though we will always feel her presence.

The family is planning on a small service at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Elwood IL where Dorothy and her husband Edward will rest as he was a World War II veteran.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to St. Judes Children's Hospital which was always one of her favorite and most meaningful charities. Service Details.
