Dorothy Ann Goudzwaard, 97, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on April 27, 2019. She was born in Grand Rapids to Irene and John VanAntwerp on November 30, 1921. After graduating from Ottawa Hills High School, Dorothy moved to Pittsburgh, where she worked at the Pennsylvania Central Airlines (PCA) ticket counter during World War II. She met and later married fellow PCA employee, Louis, in 1946. They stayed at the Waldorf Hotel as guests of the "Honeymoon in New York" radio program, where Bob Hope joined them at their wedding breakfast. After raising three girls, Dorothy returned to the travel industry as a sales agent for Ask Mr. Foster Travel and then for Breton Village Travel. She was a longtime member of Hope Reformed Church and worked with wonderful women there on fundraising projects such as spring flower sales, pizza and apple dumpling sales, and Poinsettia sales at Christmas. Dorothy was also a member of two Butterworth Hospital guilds, Cora Barber and Nellie Clements, where she volunteered at the Fireside Grille for 30 years. She liked to play bridge and garden and golf at Green Ridge and Egypt Valley Country Clubs. Dorothy is survived by daughters Pamela and Patricia, and nephews Gregory Succop of Brooklyn, New York, Martin Banning of Grand Rapids and Harmon Banning of Newark, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister Irene Succop. Her beautiful daughter Cynthia followed Dorothy to heaven one day later. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Rest Haven Homes where she resided who loved and adored her humor, cheerfulness, whistling and sweet singing voice. The family will receive visitors at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Rest Haven Homes, located at 1424 Union Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Cremation has occurred and a private burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
