Sally Simmons, age 97, passed from this earth to her heavenly home on August 9,
2023. Sally was born in Shelby, Michigan in 1926. She moved to the Grand
Rapids area while she attended nursing school, earning an RN degree. Drummond
Island was her favorite vacationing spot, spending many summers there with her
husband after their retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Simmons, her son,
Douglas, her son-in-law, Charles TerBeek, her brothers, Wayne (Janice) and
Kenneth (Mary Jane) Sanford, her sisters, Dorothy (Herman) Krager and Betty
Cheever; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Simmons and Dorothy (Richard) Dresser, and
several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon TerBeek, and her son, Gary Simmons;
three grandchildren: Calleen TerBeek (Curtis Hajdu), Corinne (Christopher)
Bossardet, and Emmett (Jodi) TerBeek; seven great-grandchildren: Carter, Dylan,
Adelaide, Olivia, Nora, Clayton, and Elijah; one brother-in-law, Lyle Cheever, and
several nieces and nephews and their families.
Per Sally's wishes, cremation has taken place. Her remains will be buried with her
husband's remains on Drummond Island. There will be no memorial service.
Sally's family would like to thank the staff at Green Acres of Cedar Springs and
the staff at Interim Healthcare Hospice for their care and kindness.
