Obituary

Doretha Rae Barnes, a beacon of joy and laughter, ascended to her heavenly abode on November 7, 2025, at the age of 60, in her beloved hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on November 25, 1964, to the late Robert W. Moon Sr. and Barbara R. Johnson, Doretha's vibrant spirit and infectious humor became her hallmark throughout her remarkable journey on earth.

A cherished sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Doretha leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Though she walks with angels now, her laughter echoes in the hearts of her surviving sister, Shelia Barense (Joe), her devoted son Chris Wolfe (Amber), her loving daughter Stephanie Wolfe, and her adored nephews and niece, Kenny Green, Christopher Green, and Jenny Esteban-Gaspar. Her brightest lights, grandchildren Cheyenne Wolfe, Isaiah Ruiz, Cameryn Wolfe, Jasmina Wolfe, and great-grandson Braxton Highland, will carry forward her zest for life and love for family.

Doretha's life was a testament to her faith and the joy she found in her work within the Aerospace & Defense industry. Her commitment to her career was matched only by her dedication to her Christian faith, which guided her every step and brought comfort to those around her.

Known for her exceptional baking skills, Doretha and her sister Sheila were an unstoppable duo during the Christmas season, filling the air with the sweet aroma of cookies and the warmth of familial love. She was a formidable card player, always ready with a winning hand and a playful warning that you'd better come prepared if you hoped to keep your change. Her pets, especially her beloved Daisy May Barnes, brought her immense happiness, but it was the time spent with her children and grandchildren that truly lit up her world.

Doretha was the epitome of a loving, generous, and funny soul. Her humor was as much a part of her as her faith, leading to many moments of shared laughter and joy. As the famous comedian Bob Hope once quipped, "I grew up with six brothers. That's how I learned to dance – waiting for the bathroom." Doretha, too, knew the dance of a bustling household and the love that filled it to the brim.

Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. Doretha Rae Barnes will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we do so with the assurance that her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched with her boundless energy and heartwarming humor. Rest in peace, dear Doretha, until we meet again.
