Donna Lou Duerr, age 87, of Byron Center passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Trillium Woods. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law John A. (Jack) Link. Donna is survived by a sister, Bettye Link; a niece, Nancy (Dennis) Richards; a nephew, John L. (Sue) Link; four grandnieces, Sara (Isaac) Reichardt, Kelly (Ben) Bratka, Laurie (Rich) Freeland, Katie (Philip) Reichardt; three grandnephews, John H. (Kristy) Link, Cory Richards, Michael Richards; four great-grandnieces; eight great-grandnephews. She is also survived by special loved ones, Judy Wilson; Linda Medina; Lisa (Kevin) Domeier; Chris (Sarah) Medina; Gates, Morgan, Kevy, and Cade Domeier who call Donna "Grandma". Donna was born on May 5, 1929 in Bad Axe, Michigan to Lewis and Esther (Schwalm) Duerr. In her early elementary years, Donna's family moved to Manistee where she graduated from Manistee High School in 1946. She attended Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelors of Science Degree. She also received a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan in 1955. Donna taught Physical Education for two years in Big Rapids, and one year overseas at an Air Force Base in England. Most of her teaching career took place at Godwin Heights Public Schools where she was a Guidance Counselor and taught Physical Education/Health until her retirement in 1990. In retirement she enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, and traveling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and longtime friends. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, November 18th at Ofield Funeral Home 4500 Kalamazoo SE, Rev. Sean Kidd, officiating. Donna's family will meet with friends Friday at 11:00 AM. Interment Colfax Cemetery in Bad Axe. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to Parkinson's Association of West Michigan 260 Jefferson Ave. SE, Suite 210, Grand Rapids, MI. 49503
