Donald (Don) Steele, 73, passed away unexpectedly on May 22, 2026.

Don was born on November 8, 1952 to Dorothy and Joseph Steele. He grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan before settling in the Grand Rapids area.

Don was employed for 20 plus years with Greyhound Bus Lines. He then worked for P&J Delivery as a dispatcher and driver, most recently working as an independent contractor with American Expediting.

For 53 years, Don was a loving, devoted husband and best friend to his wife Hazel, and a fantastic dad to son Kevin. Don would always say his day was not complete until he made Hazel laugh, and it was a rare day that she didn’t. He was a wonderful dad to Kevin, always patient and supportive. Some favorite things they enjoyed together were going to Berlin Raceway and US131 Dragway to watch car races, they also enjoyed bowling and playing basketball, or just hanging out and making each other laugh.

Don was a kind and humble man with a huge heart. He was known for his quick wit and wonderful, dry, sarcastic sense of humor. He also loved his John Wayne movies and the occasional casino trip.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Joseph Steele, brother Joseph Steele Jr., and sister Mimi Doolittle.

Don is lovingly remembered by his wife Hazel Steele, son Kevin (Christina) Steele, Siblings Richard (Margaret) Steele, Paul (Mary) Steele, Keri (Tim) Johnson, Tim (Colleen) Steele, sister-in-law Ruth Ann Steele, granddaughter Ariana Misra, and bonus granddaughter Marianne Kerr, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

While Don will always be loved and deeply missed, it is a comfort knowing he is in Heaven with his mom and dad, brother, sister, his great uncle Herman, and his grandma Forner.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
