Diane Ruth Hosler passed away on April 4th after suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Diane graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1955 and later attended Grand Rapids Junior College. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a wide range of skills, including accounting, serving as an administrative assistant, working as a realtor, presenting and selling health insurance, owning a small business in ornamental horticulture, and researching family genealogy.
Early in her life, Diane embraced adventure and travel, visiting Italy, Hawaii, Washington, Philadelphia, Alaska, and Canada. She especially cherished time spent with her nieces and nephew when they were young—taking them camping, visiting them in Washington, and even bringing them to work during her time as an administrative assistant to the President and Board of Directors at Butterworth Hospital.
Diane valued people and relationships deeply and was committed to giving back to her friends and community. She shared many fun memories with her longtime friend, Anne Turner. Together, they were part of a group called the “Taste Buds,” which met over gourmet meals for around 20 years.
Diane made her home in Alger Heights for 50 years, where she built lifelong friendships with her neighbors. She was also an active member of Kentwood Community Church, contributing by helping to landscape the church grounds, volunteering in the church office, and participating in Stephen Ministry. Diane was a devoted follower of Jesus who found joy in Bible study and reading Jesus Calling. While at Kentwood Community Church, she formed lasting friendships with a group of women who continue to meet as the “BFFs” (Bible Friends Forever).
Diane was also an active member of West Michigan Therapy Dogs, where she participated in community events with her two dogs. She especially enjoyed visiting Mary Free Bed and local libraries, where children could read to her dogs—something that brought her great joy until her illness made it no longer possible.
Diane is survived by her sister, Carol (Hosler) Giblin, her brother, Alan Hosler; her four nieces, Linda Johnson, Nancy Johnson, Kathy Fitzpatrick, and Susan Giblin; and her nephew, Jeffrey Hosler.
A Celebration of Life (with snacks and refreshments after) will be held at 10:45 AM, Friday, April 10, at Kentwood Community Church, Door I (1200 60th St SE, Kentwood, MI ).
Instead of flowers, a donation can be made in Diane's name to West Michigan Therapy Dogs, wmtdoffice@gmail.com 616-726-1256.
