Obituary

David (Dave) Warren Dunklee of Allegan passed away on July 7 2026, at his home with his family by his side. Dave was born on December 16, 1950, to Francis and Rosa Dunklee of Shelbyville, MI.

Dave and his wife Peggy spent thirty-eight years together and built a blended family that is filled with love, humor and compassion.

Dave is preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Rodney Dunklee and daughter Shannon Dunklee-Dever. Surviving him are his Wife, Peggy (McCormick) Dunklee; two sisters, Sharon (Dunklee) Godswa and Elaine (Dunklee) Ross; three daughters Kim (Main) Rathbun; Melissa (Butcher) Dever and Shandy (Butcher) Evink; and two sons, David Shaun Dunklee and Brandon J. Rantz. Also surviving him are his fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, along with a large extended family.

Dave attended Martin High School, graduating in 1969. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a sergeant with the 110 th infantry during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge in 1971. Dave was a recipient of two Purple Heart medals and a Bronze Star.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Dave enjoyed summers camping with his family, taking mini vacations to the Upper Peninsula and canoeing the Pine River with his closest friends. Dave also loved to spend his time reading, devouring any Louis Lamour or James Patterson novel he could find. If he wasn’t tucked away with a good Western novel, you could find him at the nearest blackjack table or penny slot machine. In addition, Dave was very fond of games and would be the first person to challenge you to a rousing chess match or game of cribbage; in which, he was sure to win.

Dave was a serious, quiet-humored man who believed the needs of his family was top priority but was always first in line to help another when needed. He instilled a work ethic and moral compass in his children and grandchildren that will live through generations.

Dave’s spirit and legacy will live on forever in the hearts and memories of his family and friends, who cherished him so deeply.

In honor and respect to his wishes, funeral services will not be held, however a Celebration of Life will be announced on a later date.
