Obituary

I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings September 2 Dan Wallace, filed his last flight plan and has left behind his wife of forty years, Mary Roth, his much loved son Craig and daughter-in-law Melissa Wallace, and his treasured grandchildren, Morgan Wallace and Collin Wallace to wish him smooth air and CAVU. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Oliver Wallace, by his brother and business partner, David Wallace. Dan lived his entire life never more than a quarter mile from his family's log cabin on the Thornapple River; exploring, swimming, skiing and ultimately flying his favorite seaplanes from his homes there. His grandfather, who had long ago dammed the Thornapple River would have been proud to see Dan's stewardship and love for the land and river. Dan was blessed with lifelong joy that he found in all his favorite endeavors; his family and friends, Wallace Advertising, Savory Street Restaurant, in his corn and melon filled gardens, his massive tree planting projects, in his development of Oliver Woods and Winsfield, and in his lifelong passion for flying. His family asks that you remember Dan by doing something anonymously for someone in need. Those of us lucky enough to have been loved by Dan will never forget the man, his love for us, his terrible puns, his intense work ethic, and his pure joy in flight. Family and friends will gather to add one more tree to his thousands on October 4th at 2PM, at Ada Park Picnic Shelter. Fly high, CAVU Dan.
