Obituary

Daniel Lee Van’t Kerkhoff, 90, of Holland, MI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 3, 2026. Dan was born on November 11, 1935, in Byron Center, Michigan, son of Harold (Harry) and Luella Van’t Kerkhoff. He attended Grand Canyon College and then Central College in Pella, Iowa, where he met and married Eileen Heideman. Dan later graduated from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. After serving a brief time as a pastor in the Reformed Church of America, Dan spent most of his career in publishing working for Erdmans, Zondervan, and ending his career with Baker Book House.

Dan and Eileen shared 48 years of marriage before Eileen's passing in 2006. They raised two children, Mary (Koster) and Mark VanKerkhoff. Together they enjoyed singing, performing in local musicals, travel, and family.

Dan found love again and in 2010 married Peggy McGee. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage living on a lake in Central Michigan and had many adventures until her passing in 2020.

Dan enjoyed a special love and companionship with Janet Skendzel-Davis during the final years of his life. Together they enjoyed concerts, travel, and sunsets on Lake Michigan.

Dan was blessed with almost 91 years of exceptional health in mind and body. He found joy in singing, reading, travel, fishing and seeing family near and far. He was known for his kindness, sense of adventure and positive attitude, even in the face of his short battle with brain cancer, which was discovered in June of this year.

Dan will be remembered for his faith, adventurous life, deep love of family, and faith in God. His family rejoices in the assurance that he is now home.

Dan was also preceded in death by his sister, Aletha Daniels, his daughter, Mary Koster and her husband, Bill Koster. He is survived by his son, Mark VanKerkhoff, his wife Amy, and their four children Todd, Molly (Harvey) Blake and Caleb. He is also survived by Mary and Bill Koster’s three children, Joel, Sarah and Jared. In total, Dan has 12 great grandchildren, all of who he met and loved on. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Evenson, Sharon Klienheksel, and brothers-in-law John Kleinheksel and Will Daniels.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 16, 2026, at Christ Memorial Church located at 595 Graafschap Road in Holland, Michigan. The service will be at 11:00 AM preceded by a time of visitation at 10:00 AM. A light lunch will immediately follow. The service can be viewed live or after the service via this link: https://www.youtube.com/live/kn37ju1yAtU

In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, the family invites those who wish to honor Dan’s memory to consider a donation to Faith Hospice of Grand Rapids Michigan, whose caring team made possible Dan’s wish to conclude his life in his home. https://faithhospicecare.org/foundation/
