Obituary

Daniel L. LaFontsee of Jenison, Michigan, age 81, passed away on Sunday October 3rd 2021. He was born to Julian and Ethel (Schenk) LaFontsee on January 17th, 1940, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Dan was born the third son of 8; along with 6 sisters, where he grew up in a small, three bedroom, one bath home in Wyoming, Michigan. He attended Wyoming High School through the 10th grade; at which time he began a long 60 year career at Grand Rapids ing Ink, where he worked for three generations of owners.
He was married to Clarice (Dine) on January 17th, 1958; and had four children. Dan was passionate about providing a good and loving home for his children. He worked two jobs his whole life to make sure his children lived in a good and safe home, while attending an excellent school district as to receive a good education; Education was important to him.

Dan loved to work, not only at the Ink company, but in his commercial janitorial business where he took great pride in servicing many business owners cleaning needs. It was a family affair and a right of passage once we were old enough to work along side our dad. Dan enjoyed having his children work with him.

Dan especially enjoyed the lifelong friendship of Bruce (Donna) Ames; friends since the 3rd grade. When Dan had free time, he enjoyed traveling; especially Vegas and Michigan Casinos and going out to eat of course.
Dan enjoyed sports. He played football and bowled for many years. He would watch all sports but particularly enjoyed football and boxing.

He looked forward to getting together with friends and family, alternating between homes to watch football and partake in a big "food spread" to share amongst family and friends. He routinely took part in weekly card games with various family's and couples. They would play spades, set back, hearts, and many other card games. He enjoyed the friendly competition of cards (and all the food and snacks)

Dan also enjoyed helping out troubled youths. He and his wife were foster parents in the Kent County Juvenile Court system, mentoring and caring for many wayward boys. Dan had a kind and tender heart and anyone could approach him with any type of problem without being rejected or criticized.

Dan is survived by his loving children; Kathy LaFontsee, Daniel (Sandy Wilson) LaFontsee, Shelley (Michael) Baas, Barbara (David) DeVries; brothers, Duane Michael (Dort) LaFontsee, Doug LaFontsee; sisters, Jean Pols, Lillian Riva, Nancy (Darrell) Buekema; grandchildren, Daniel (Sara) LaFontsee, Brian DeVries, Mitchell (Francesca) DeVries, Michael Baas, Eric DeHaan, Rebecca (Kris) Krannitz, Abbey DeHaan; great-grandchildren, Daniel Wyatt and Raylynn LaFontsee, Natalie and Nick DeHaan, Grace, Sean, Phoebe and Dylan Krannitz; good friends Nancy and Ricky Clemence; several brother and sisters-in-law; numerous nephews and nieces along with many friends and co-workers.
