Obituary

Corrine Kay (Shealy) DeMaagd of Dorr, Michigan passed away peacefully at her home with her husband, Jim, and daughter, Erin, by her side on Friday, June 17th, 2022. Corrine was born on August 27th, 1954, at Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents Royal and Marilyn Shealy, her eldest brother Carter Shealy, and her niece Ashley DeMaagd. She is survived by her husband James DeMaagd, daughter Erin DeMaagd, brother Craig Shealy (Ann), and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She held a special place in her heart for her chosen sister Kathy DeMaagd-Heugel and best friend Charlene Herrema Whipp.

Corrine grew up in Jenison, Michigan and graduated from Jenison High School. She married James (Jim) on October 13th, 1973, and had one daughter, Erin, who would become the blessing of her life. For years, Corrine would volunteer at Erin's school, Sycamore Elementary in Dorr, Michigan, until eventually assuming the job of Kitchen Coordinator, a position she held for 20 years.

Corrine and Jim spent many years building their own home, buying and renovating several rental properties, and remodeling a family cabin in the U.P. where she spent many summers with family and friends. The cabin was a special place that brought her great joy.

Animals also brought Corrine joy. She especially loved dogs and she had several devoted four-legged companions over the years that she cherished. She loved old-fashioned things like gifts wrapped in brown paper bags, horse-drawn carriages, perusing antique shops and secondhand stores, and watching period pieces, especially the Anne of Green Gables series. She was also a fan of old country westerns, like Bonanza and The Rifleman, and loved early Star Trek, especially the character Spock. Her favorite season was fall, and you would often see her wearing cozy, stylish sweaters. Visiting haunted houses with her sister, niece, and daughter was an event she looked forward to in the fall where much laughter took place amid delightful screams.

Some other hobbies of hers were talking on the phone, listening to music around the house, weekend car rides, knitting and other crafts, and gardening. She loved hosting dear friends with a spread of pastries and a bottomless pot of coffee to add to long afternoon chats and laughs.

Anyone that knew Corrine loved her for her fun spirit, compassionate heart, and generous soul. She could make your day better with a single hug. Though she faced many trials and illnesses in her life, she overcame them with strength, dignity, and bravery, and found the gift in the extra years she was given. Corrine's family and friends will remember her as the kind, fun, funny, strong, warm, and wonderful person that she was.

We should all be so lucky to be remembered as fondly as she will be.

No visitation or funeral service will take place for Corrine, and she will be cremated, per her wishes. Contributions in memory of Corrine can be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010. Service Details.
