Cindy Lee Acker, age 64 died on Saturday, February 19 at Living Waters Memory Care facility in Portage, Michigan. She was born on October 12, 1957 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, the daughter of George Henry Acker, Jr. and Nancy Helen (Clouston) Acker. The family moved to Kalamazoo in 1959 and Cindy graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1975.
As a youngster, Cindy was a competitive swimmer at the Kalamazoo YMCA and established the National record for freestyle in 1969. In 1972, Cindy and her sister Judy were on the Central High School tennis team when they won the first Michigan Girls' State Championship.
Cindy also played on the girls' basketball team in high school with her sister Sherry. The team won the District Championship in 1974. Her senior year at Central, Cindy was elected Homecoming Queen.
Cindy earned a BS degree in physical education from Central Michigan University in 1979. Following her graduation, Cindy began her career as a reservation agent for Delta (Northwest) Airlines. She also spent time during the summer months giving swimming lessons to children.
Cindy was a kind, gentle and compassionate person who will be deeply missed by her family. Cindy had a special gift with animals and took excellent care of her dogs and cats. She was a loving and devoted mother to her two sons, Jason(deceased) and Ryan. Because of her employment
with the airlines, she and her boys traveled to many exciting destinations.
She is survived by her mother, Nancy Acker; her son, Ryan Lee Lewis; sisters, Sherry Acker and Georgia (Gigi) Acker; granddaughters, Vanessa and Niomi Lewis; 3 nieces and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, George Acker; sister Judy, and son Jason. Service Details.
