Obituary

Cheryl Jean Daoust ( Mercier), age 74, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior, surrounded by family, on December 3, 2025. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Cheryl was born on August 9, 1951, in Manistique, Michigan, to Elmer and Rhea (Leazier) Mercier. She was raised on a third-generation farm in Garden, Michigan, and graduated from Big Bay de Noc High School in 1969. In 1970, Cheryl met the love of her life, Mike Daoust. On August 28, 1971, they were married and moved to Battle Creek, where they enjoyed 54 wonderful years together.

In Battle Creek, Cheryl and Mike built an American Dream and raised a family in their forever home—a home filled with love and laughter. Cheryl attended beautician school and worked at Guy's and Gal's Salon for many years. She later became a bus driver for Harper Creek Schools, where she loved the kids and mentored many people. She retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

After retiring, Cheryl spent her time enjoying family, baking, gardening, mowing the grass, and collecting Wizard of Oz memorabilia. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her large family. She took many trips with her cousin Carol Walbeck, going "junking" and sharing adventures. Cheryl was a mentor to many; her open arms and listening ear made a lasting impact on countless lives. She would help anyone in need, and there was always an open spot at her table.

Cheryl will forever be loved and missed by her husband, Mike Daoust; daughter, Michelle Daoust; grandson, Devin Daoust; sisters Marsha (Rick) Bates, Mary (Joe) Polmatier, and Lisa (Chris) Cota-Weber; and her "bonus sister," Helen (Doug) Williams. She will also be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews—whom she spoiled with unconditional love, snacks, and treats—and by many cousins with whom she created cherished memories and
laughter. She leaves behind many friends, as well as bonus sons; Jimmy Boddy, Jeff Potter and Matt Baines and bonus grandsons; Kyler Case and Mark Gordier. To Cheryl, you were only a stranger once; she treated everyone like family.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Rhea Mercier; her brother, Cary; many aunts and uncles; and grandparents who now welcome her with open arms.
