Obituary

Charter Geoffrey Moore, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, died on August 16, 2022. Charter was born on April 27, 1987 in Petoskey, MI, and attended Charlevoix Elementary, Wealthy Elementary in East Grand Rapids, St. Andrew's Middle School, and graduated from Forest Hills Northern High School in 2005.

A true creative thinker and free spirit, Charter Geoff earned five levels of SCUBA diving certification in Australia. He was a musician, lover of books and film, and a poet. He had an insatiable mind and a generous spirit who never met a stranger. Everyone who knew him walked away with a smile and a "Charter Moore" story.

Sadly, during much of Charter Geoff's adult life, he battled addiction, anxiety, and depression. He fought a valiant fight, but addiction was just too big. The family is indebted to the many people and organizations who tried to fight the fight with him. In particular, the family would like to recognize the remarkable doctors, nurses, and staff at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids as well as Gift of Life Michigan. In keeping with Charter's generosity of spirit, through organ donation he was able to save many lives.

Charter's survivors include his parents Tim and Patricia (Doyle) Moore of Mount Pleasant, MI; his sisters Laurie Thorpe (Scott) of Vashon, WA, and Nicole Moore (John) of Zebulon, NC; his brother Heath Moore (Janet) of Dublin, OH; his nephews Cooper and Bennett Thorpe; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Charter was preceded in death by grandparents Wallace and Ina (Ringle) Moore, grandmother Paula (Hughes) Miller, and aunt Constance (Doyle) Weidner. A private family memorial will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Charter's name to Gift of Life Michigan.

"I was bathing in the summer sun,
When something told me this is the one.
This is the time when it's time to make a change…
A fork in the road, and he offered an exchange:
Forgo the pleasures and delight,
Or take the darkest path that leads toward the light.
The man chose the former,
Which he soon came to regret.
He wished he'd forgone the pleasures and excess.
He wished he had taken the other road.

Now he is left bearing a load
That he cannot possibly bear.
Not forever, that much he's aware.
He struggles to find his way to the side
That the other man suggested beside.
He feels that maybe someday something will change,
But for now things just have to stay the same.

The weight he bears is unfathomable to those
Who never had to stand upon their ten toes,
And make a change…
To become someone new, someone better.
Maybe someone like you."
