Charles Ross Selby passed away on July 5th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, courage, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Charles was a giving father, an amazing family man, and a dedicated friend whose generosity and compassion touched the lives of many. He found his greatest joy in his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer wise advice, or simply be there when someone needed him. His strength, integrity, and quiet kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Charles proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. A decorated veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his courage and sacrifice. His service reflected the same character he carried throughout his life—selfless, resilient, and honorable.
He is lovingly survived by his sons, Michael Ramos-Selby and Scott Selby; daughter in-laws, Michele and Heather; seven cherished grandchildren (Nicole, Justin, Stephanie, Tyler, Charles Joseph, Bailey, and Brooklyn); six great-grandchildren (Lennon, Bennett, Mila, Wesley, Liam, and Laylah); his younger brother, Donald; his sister, Kathy; and long-time family friends Sheryll, Dane, and Ronnie. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Selby Jr. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
Though Charles will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly, the friendships he nurtured, and the example of compassion, service, and strength that he leaves behind.
May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will never be forgotten.
A military service will be held for Charles at Resurrection Life Cemetery in Wyoming, Michigan, on July 31st , at 2:15pm. A celebration of life will follow at the American Legion post 208 in Kentwood, Michigan, from 4pm to 6pm.
In leu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to the West Michigan Veterans Coalition in Charles’ name.
