Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Kersjes age 81 of Jenison passed away on Friday August 20, 2021. Chuck was a lifelong avid sports fan who enjoyed watching his beloved Detroit Tigers and West Michigan Whitecaps. Chuck, a graduate of Catholic Central High School was a four-year letterman on the Varsity Baseball team. An accomplished pitcher in his high school days, Chuck went on to play in the City Majors before an injury cut short his athletic career.

Chuck spent the majority of his career in the retail grocery business. He was the owner/operator of C&B Family Food Center in Edmore along with being a Store Director for Family Fare and SpartanNash stores. Chuck was also employed by M&M Mars and Davis Dental.

He was proceeded in death by his first wife Barb (May) Kersjes and his parents, R. Joseph and Francis (Kirkhoff) Kersjes and son-in-law Darren White, siblings Joan (Gil) Van Gessel, Jean (Jim) Chrysler, and Jim (Kay) Kersjes. Chuck is survived by his wife Margie (Gessner) Kersjes, sons Tim (Patty) and Tom (Deb) Kersjes, daughters Julie Kersjes, Amy White, Maria Gregory, Paula Riesenbeck, Alicia (Josh) Takens and Tricia (Kevin) Maday.

Chuck thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by 16 grandchildren. Steven, Shelby, Karen, Kurt and Joseph Kersjes. Alex (Alyssa) Wanless, Ashley (Matt) Sanford. Kyle and Brayden White, Cohen and Kennedi Overholt, Mila Riesenbeck, Ayla Braun, Kolsyn Stacy, Kyler and Dexton Maday. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren. Weston and Tripp Wanless along with Maddison, Conner and Riley Sanford.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday August 28, at 11:00 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church 2700 Baldwin Jenison. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:30 - 11:00.

The family would appreciate assistance with funeral costs in lieu of flowers.
