July 20, 2013 Charles "Chuck" Dawson went to the great golf course in heaven, where there are no trees to hit, no sand traps, and no water hazards with all shots being straight. He died at home Saturday, July 20th after a yearlong battle with pancreatic and lung cancers. Preceding him in death is his daughter, Mary, who has been waiting 11 years for him and now assumes the role of caddy and dance partner. Surviving are his wife, of 57 years, Patricia "Pat" Dawson; his brother, Bill; sons Bill (Tami), Tim (Lori), Tom (Kelly) and Mike (Margaret). He also leaves behind grandchildren, Stacy, Danielle, Joshua, Theresa, Cassie, Sydni, David, Kate, Ali, and Kori Dawson, Caryn and Bobby Coleman, Matt Tingley and his fiancé Mary Venturi; good friend and golf partner for over 40 years, Tom Burr; many nieces, nephews and his faithful labrador, Abby. Chuck also welcomed his first great-granddaughter, Ahnika this past spring. Chuck was a retired underwriter for Hartford Insurance where he worked for 33 years. There have been many people who have been supportive and have helped but the family would like to give special thanks to Teresa and friends for walking Abby daily and to Julie for bringing communion to the house weekly. Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 25, in the Dominican Chapel at Marywood, 2025 E. Fulton. Visitation will be Wednesday at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave., from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with a remembering service at 7:30 P.M. and 1 hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday. Chuck was very goal oriented and achieved much in his lifetime. His last goal was to have the courage to die with dignity so that his sons would be proud of him. He succeeded in that goal. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Dominican Center at Marywood or Gilda's Club.
