Charles "Chuck" Alan Vantuyl, aged 66, passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 6, 2025, in Grand Rapids, MI, after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on May 25, 1959, in Kalamazoo, MI. Chuck was a man of honor, integrity, and boundless generosity.
Chuck proudly served his country as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army for 21 years, a tenure that instilled in him a profound sense of duty and resilience. After retiring from military service, he transitioned to a civilian career with Consumers Energy, where he dedicated 13 years as a programmer, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. His educational achievements included a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Colorado Technical University, which he used to inspire his children and grandchildren about the value of lifelong learning.
Family was the cornerstone of Chuck's life, and he is survived by his beloved wife, Taressa Vantuyl; his children, Charles (Stephanie) Vantuyl II, Heather (Clinton) Oakley, Katie Chaney, Brad Chaney, Kimberly (Bradley) Gilbertson, and Cody Vantuyl. Chuck was a cherished grandfather to Blake, Hallie, Taylor, Lillie, Colton, Ashlee, Annika, and Sven, and a doting great-grandfather to Brynlee and Sawyer. Each of them will carry forward his legacy of love and wisdom.
As a Christian man, Chuck lived his faith through action, always extending a helping hand to those in need. He was a man who believed in the power of kindness and the strength that comes from community. His interests outside work and family included a passion for Detroit Tiger's baseball, and computer programming.
Chuck's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and the unassailable strength of the human spirit. As we say farewell, we celebrate the remarkable journey of a man who was truly one of a kind. Chuck will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
