Charles Lobdell Bradford Jr., 85 years old, passed away on August 7th after a long battle with cancer. He was born April29, 1936, in Chicago, IL,and lived on South Shore Drive. He attended Dartmouth college and earned an MBA in Business from Amos Tuck School. He was married to Sally Bradford for more than 63 years. Chuck worked at the Bradford Paper company for 20 years and oversaw the operations side of the business. He was the driving force behind moving the company its 16th street location Quincy Avenue. After his years with Bradford Paper he started his own consulting firm, CSSP, the Center for Simplified Strategic Planning. Using his model for strategic planning, he attracted a talented workforce and clients from around the world. He was admired for his incredible work ethic, personal discipline and generosity. He had a terrific sense of humor and was a good mentor. Chuck spent many years serving on the board for Holland Public Schools as well as the Ottawa Intermediate School Board. He was most proud of his role in creating the Ottawa Area Center and the Careerline Tech Center. His hobbies ranged from water skiing as a young man, teaching and competing in sailing, glider flying, kayaking, and SCUBA diving in his later years. His consistent passion through out his life was Jazz music. His knowledge of music was as extensive as his vinyl collection. He enjoyed joining local musicians at different venues in Western Michigan, singing renditions of the jazz classics. His grand children and great grandchildren children fondly knew him as Roar, for crawling on the floor chasing them and pretending to be a lion.
Chuck is survived by his brother, Father Richard (& Judith)Bradford of Boston, MA and his sister Linda (& Donald) Lyons of Bend,Oregon, his daughters Barbara (& Mike) Bruhn and Cindy (& Jeff) Skvarch, his son Robert Bradford, his grandchildren: Robert Bruhn, Lindsay Skoglund, Angela Skvarch, Madeleine and John Bradford, 4 beloved great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be planned for close family and friends next summer. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Holland In his memory.
