Obituary

Specialist Charles W. Bowling of the 4th Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group - Airborne, age 32, passed away unexpectedly in Three Rivers, MI at his home on July 11, 2018. A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Chuck participated in over 200 scheduled and unscheduled vehicles maintenance services of the Battalions equipment. He also led convoys to recover damaged equipment and perform necessary repairs during his two tours overseas, earning countless medals and commendations. Chuck was born on March 20, 1986 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Chuck joined the armed forces in 2005 and was assigned to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for basic training and Advanced Individual Training in Auto Mechanics. He received his certificates and continued on his path to becoming a member of the 507th Bravo Company 1st Platoon; Airborne that same year. After successful completion of training at the Airborne School Brigade in Fort Benning Georgia, he was then assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he was deployed for his 1st tour of duty in Iraq. After 13 months overseas he re-enlisted and continued his military career as a member of the 4th Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group - Airborne in Fort Campbell, KY. Chuck underwent vigorous training as an Army Specialist before being deployed for his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq from January 2010 to August 2010 where he was awarded three stars for his participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and the Global War on Terrorism, along with many other awards, medals and ribbons for his service. Chuck was married to Ashleigh Warden from 2008 to 2015 and was blessed with his first child, on August 3, 2009. He met Amber Reish in 2015 and was blessed with his second child on May 2, 2016. Chuck was preceded in death by his father; H. Wayne Bowing in January 2018. He is survived by his son, Camden B. Bowling, daughter Kayleigh M. Bowling; mother Brenda S. Bowling, two sisters; Misty L. Bowling and Tiffany L. (Edward) Arnett, two half-sisters, three half-brothers, and six nephews. Chuck's Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road in Battle Creek on July 26, 2018 at 2:30pm. We will continue the celebration at the VFW Comstock Post, 5990 East Michigan Avenue directly following the service.
