Cathy Huntley (Catherine Hendges, "Shube") died Monday, opening day of archery season. She had just turned 60 years old. An avid sportswoman her entire life, it seems fitting she passed on this day. Cathy was born in Grand Rapids, MI. She spent her formative years as a student at Holy Spirit and West Catholic High. During her youth, she traveled extensively across the US. She lived in Alaska for nearly a decade. She met her husband Chris in Anchorage and they had two children together. They built a beautiful home in the mountains overlooking Potter's Marsh, but eventually the pull of family brought them back to Grand Rapids. Cathy was an entrepreneur; as a florist and later a taxidermist. Everything she touched turned to gold. Cathy had pancreatic cancer, and this affected her health for nearly 7 years. Yet, she remained humble, joyous, and appreciative of all the blessings she had been given in life. She is survived by her devoted husband, Chris; children, Tyler (Rachel) and Andrea (Matt); grandchildren, Parker & Kendall; loving parents, Connie & Don Hendges; siblings Don (Sandy), Beth (Jim), and Fred; niece and nephews, Don, Alisha, Corey, Lucas, and very special family friend, Ron White. A Catholic Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 10th at 5 pm at Holy Spirit Parish on Lake Michigan Dr. Visitation and celebration of life immediately following. Cathy requested that in lieu of flowers, please pay it forward or do a good deed in her remembrance.
