Cassandra Ann Vander Myde (née Dara), age 52, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, in Byron Center, Michigan, after a courageous battle with Synovial Sarcoma that spanned nearly five years. Born on May 1, 1974, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cassandra lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family and friends.
A proud graduate of Wyoming Park High School’s Class of 1992, Cassandra built her life around her loved ones. She was a devoted mother whose greatest joy was her children. Her unwavering dedication to her family made her the cornerstone of countless cherished memories. Known for her warmth and generosity, Cassandra opened her home for gatherings that brought people together in laughter and love.
Cassandra is survived by her loving husband Jacob; her beloved children Noah, Emma, Alexa, and adopted daughter Sam; and her best friend Charlie. She also leaves behind her father Michael; sisters Angela Dara and Jennifer Leonard (husband Shawn); nephews Austin Dara and Evan Leonard; niece Abby Leonard; and aunts Linda Ocampo and Joanne Jesnek (husband Paul). Cassandra shared a special bond with Linda that brought them both immense joy. She was predeceased by her mother Cheryl Dara; grandparents Mariano and Helen Dara; grandmother Barbara Mooney; uncle Paco Ocampo; and other cherished family members who preceded her in death.
Cassandra found joy in life’s simple pleasures—shopping for treasures, cooking meals that brought people together, spending sunny days at Oval Beach, and sharing laughter over videos. Whether hosting family gatherings or relaxing with Charlie, she had a gift for making every moment meaningful.
In honor of Cassandra’s memory and the strength she displayed throughout her illness, donations can be made to the Stomp Out Sarcoma Michigan organization through the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 14, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whistlestop Park Community Center, 2120 76th St., Byron Center. Cassandra’s legacy of love and connection will forever comfort those who knew her.
