IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn
Lacy
September 7, 1952 – February 23, 2026
Carolyn “Lotta” Lacy (Hungerford), born September 7, 1952, in Douglas, MI passed away peacefully on the morning of February 23, 2026 at her home in Glenn, MI (aka “pigtail alley”), at the age of 73, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Her loving daughter, Shahana, was by her side as she took her final breath — a reflection of the deep bond they shared throughout life.
Lotta was a true free spirit — a hippie at heart, fiercely independent, beautifully stubborn, and wonderfully wild. She lived life unapologetically and entirely on her own terms. She spoke her truth, stood firm in her beliefs, and loved in a way that was passionate, real, and unmistakably hers.
At a young age, she married the love of her life, Peter Hungerford. Though Peter preceded her in death, their love story remained one of the defining chapters of her life. Music was woven into their years together, and Lotta loved classic rock ‘n’ roll — guitars, laughter, and classic tunes serving as the soundtrack to her life. And those who knew Lotta well also knew she enjoyed her Fireball, often paired with her playful spark and knowing smile.
Together, Lotta and Peter raised their beautiful daughter, Shahana, who was her pride and greatest joy. She is also survived by her devoted son-in-law, Gary, who she loved as family.
Her most treasured title may have been “Nana.” She leaves behind three beloved grandchildren — Jason, Ryan, and Madilyn — who adored their Nana and loved her deeply. She loved them fiercely in return, and her bold, loving spirit will live on in each of them.
Lotta dedicated many years to serving her community as a school aide at Douglas Elementary School and Saugatuck High School. Her presence left a quiet but lasting impact on many young lives.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents William and Suretta along with her beautiful siblings, Billy, Joyce, and Barb. She has two surviving siblings Mary and Vicky.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Hungerford (Vaughn Cannady), and her niece, Carrie Visser along with many nieces/nephews/cousins and dear friends who truly enjoyed spending time with her.
Lotta leaves behind a legacy of authenticity, strength, music, laughter, and fierce love. She taught those around her to live boldly, stand tall, and never dim their light for anyone.
A celebration of her life will be held on July 11 at the Glenn Community Center.
She didn’t just live — she lived out loud.
She loved fiercely.
And her free spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
