August 17, 2014 Carol Dissette, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Dissette. She is survived by daughters Alyce of New York, NY, Jayne of Grand Rapids, MI and granddaughter, Nicole of Boston, MA. Carol was born in Evanston, IL, but spent most of her life in Michigan both in Flint and later Grand Haven. She completed her undergraduate degree at UM-Flint and later earned a Master of Administration in Higher Education from Michigan State University. Carol had a great career of public school teaching for 27 years in Flint, MI. But she never left the classroom permanently. After moving to Grand Haven, she was a substitute teacher at Grand Haven Public Schools and later West Ottawa and also taught GED in Holland. Perhaps her greatest love was figure skating and she fulfilled a dream of becoming a figure skating judge; achieving the level of Gold Test judge. Carol had deep appreciation and love of music and the arts. She made annual trips to New York to see the Metropolitan Opera with her cousin and close friend Ellen. A fervent traveller, she loved no place more than Paris, but her travels also took her to Japan, Greece, and the UK. Being a figure skating judge led her to many corners of the United States and she loved seeing every ice arena and watching young skaters work hard. Always a night owl, she often spent nights working on a needlepoint project, watching classic films, or catching up with old friends on the phone. Carol will also be remembered by family and friends for all of the wonderful sweaters she knitted for them (and their entire families) and her many sewing projects. She was nicknamed the "Knitting Machine" by one wonderful friend, which she always loved being called. Never the most avid golfer in her family, Carol was the only one who ever carded a hole-in-one.
