IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carla Jo
Miller
August 26, 1940 – August 17, 2019
Carla (Hudson) Miller gently passed away at the age of 78 in her home, held by her beloved family and surrounded by her dear pets on August 17, 2019. She remained driven, self-reflective, passionate, and selfless despite the diagnosis of a rare form of oral cancer 22 years ago. Carla was born in 1940 and grew up on Reeds Lake, graduating from East Grand Rapids High School. She attended Western Michigan University and earned masters degrees in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, and in Social Work from GVSU. When her young, adventurous family moved to Providenciales, a small island in the Caribbean, Carla home-schooled her kids and became excellent at almost everything. Later, when the family returned to Grand Rapids, Carla's resourcefulness benefited her community; her energy, kindness, and wisdom fostered lifelong friendships in so many circles: 4-H Club, Pony Club, Fountain Street Church, her counseling practice, and her extended family. After retiring she spent many hours at the barn with her beloved dressage horse, Kiwi, and her beautiful collie, Prince. Carla had a deep connection to people who were struggling. With friends, family, and patients alike, she was active and involved, always seeking to understand and make a real difference in the lives of others. Even when she was no longer able to speak, she could communicate her compassion with a hug, or raise a question with one dubious eyebrow. She was so proud of her family, and loved us all so much. We will miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl R. Green and her sister Donna Greenlee, and is survived by her brother Larry Hudson, children Laurie Moore (Miller), Annie Rouvillois (Miller), David Miller, and their father K. David Miller. And by extended family members Paul, Sierra, Summer, and Sage Moore; Sasha, Cecilia, Sammy Rouvillois, and Nick Duesbery; Oliver and Maire Miller, Jessica and Lilibet Vacek, Scott Greenlee, Chuck and Amy Greenlee, Robin Hudson, and Todd and Becky Hudson. A celebration of Carla's life will be held on her birthday, Monday, August 26th, 11:00 AM at Fountain Street Church officiated by the Rev. Bruce Bode from Port Townsend, WA. A reception at Meijer Gardens will immediately follow. For those unable to attend the reception following the service, the family will be present prior to the service from 10-10:50 am to receive visitors. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to any Democratic candidate running for any office, anywhere.
