Carl Norman Sawyer, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home with family, due to natural causes on July 27, 2023, in Jenison, Michigan, at the age of 91. Born on June 2, 1932, in Wyoming, Michigan, Carl's life was marked by his enduring kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit.

Carl grew up in Wyoming, Michigan where he attended Wyoming Public Schools.  He would then embarked on a long and distinguished career with the Grand Rapids Press Newspaper, dedicating 35 years of service as the State Circulation Manager. His professionalism, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry he loved.

Outside of his professional life, Carl was an avid golfer. He relished the camaraderie with friends and the challenge of the game, spending countless hours on the golf course. Carl's passion for golf was paralleled only by his unwavering loyalty to his favorite sports teams—the Detroit Tigers, Redwings, and Lions. His steadfast support for his teams through the many years of victories and defeats, exemplified his loyalty and spirited nature.

Those who knew Carl will remember him as a kind soul who greeted everyone with a warm smile and a generous heart. His gentle approach to life and ability to see the good in people made him a cherished member of his community.

Carl was a loving father to Randy Allen Sawyer (deceased), Robert Norman Sawyer, Debra Lynn Stark, Kathleen Marie Warren, Harold (Jay) Arnold Stark, Susan Elizabeth Brown, Dawn Renae Stark (deceased), Cindy Sue Stark, Craig Allen Sawyer, Eric James Sawyer (deceased), Nicole Renae Dunfee, and Curt Nolan Sawyer.

Carl's journey was one of gentleness, kindness, and an unyielding generosity for his family and friends that brought joy to his life.  His spirit will forever grace the fairways of heaven, and his memory will be enshrined in the hearts of those who loved him.
