Carl Louis Kikstra, age 72, of Marne, peacefully went home to his Lord and Savior on May 10, surrounded by his family. The son of Louis and Lucille (Nordyke) Kikstra, Carl was born in 1946 in Grand Rapids. After graduating from South Christian High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and proudly served in the Vietnam War for two years, on the USS Okanogan. Carl is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children: Carl Jr. & Betsy Kikstra, Chad & Megan Kikstra, and Cari & Joe Treacy; Dirk & Jennifer Kraai, Stacy Dean, Mike & Tammy Van Duinen, Todd & Shari Van Duinen, and Ed & Rita Van Duinen; He will be missed by many dearly loved grandchildren: Chloe, Sam & Ben Kikstra, Zoe & Liam Kikstra, Brooke & Chris Freeman, Ava Steggerda-Treacy & Tanner Treacy; and step-grandchildren, Cole & Corin Kraai, Nathan Huizingh, Hope Dean; the Van Duinen step-grandchildren: Luke, Zac & Courtney, Emilie & Henry Miller, Josh & Amanda, Matthew & Samantha, Andrew, Ava and Olivia; and six step-great grandchildren. Siblings: Mary & Gary Armstrong, Jim & Anne Kikstra, and Laurie Noorman; and nieces and nephews. Numerous beloved family members and friends will also feel the void of his loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister Julie, and his brother-in-law, Rick Noorman. Visitation will be held at Bauer Community Fellowship, 4852 Bauer Rd. Hudsonville, from 6-9:00 p.m. on May 15, and 10-11:00 a.m. on May 16, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the VFW Foundation at vfw.org.
