Obituary

SCHANER, BONNIE FRANCES ELLIOTT Age 80, of Kentwood, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2016, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Bonnie was born on December 4, 1935, in Newport, NC, to Eli S. and Lola (Bell) Elliott. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Allen Elliott; sisters, Lillian Wilcox, Barbara Swinson, Maxine Hirt, Edna Mae Ewell; and nephew, Virgil Elliott. Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Richard; children, Bonnie Susan Zerrenner, Richard (Kathy) Schaner, Jr., David (Bev) Schaner; grandchildren, Chrystal Schaner Lobdell, David Eli Schaner; and great-grandchildren, Bobby, Summer, Elliott, Rosie; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Retha Elliott, Russell (Bev) Schaner, Ruth Czarnecki, Katherine Lacy, Doris Schaner, Maxine Schaner, Lyle Perschke; and many nieces, nephews, friends and her little dog, Freedom. Bonnie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always young at heart and touched many lives with her kindness and tender care. The family would like to thank the staff at Spectrum Health Rehab & Nursing Center (formerly Grand Valley Nursing Center from where Bonnie retired) for their gentle and loving care of Bonnie. A funeral service will be held at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, on Thursday, February 11th at 11:00 AM. The family will greet friends and relatives one half hour prior to the service and on Wednesday, February 10th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Donations to the Alzheirmer's Association of West Michigan, 2944 Fuller Ave. NE, Ste. 101, Grand Rapids, MI 49505 would be appreciated.
