Obituary

Betty Ann Westra, aged 93, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2018. A committed Christian and elder at Hope Reformed Church, Betty is now enjoying the glories of God in heaven with her husband Jule, where they await their resurrected bodies in the New Heaven and Earth. Betty was born to Matthew Paul DeMaagd and Maude DeMeester DeMaagd in Grand Rapids. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Byron and Paul DeMaagd. She attended Central High School, where she graduated in the top ten of her class. She is survived by her three children, Nancy Terkeurst Branciforte, Marcia Westra Danney, Gary Jule Westra, and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Betty was a long-time member at Calvary Reformed Church, where she loved singing in the choir. She was a friend to anyone she met. She loved her clients and co-workers at Old Kent Bank, where she worked for over 25 years. She welcomed with open arms anyone who joined her extended family. Betty had a keen and inquisitive mind and she engaged fully in the world around her. Her funeral will be held Monday, October 29 in the Meeting House of Porter Hills Village (3600 East Fulton St.) with visitation at 10:00 and the service at 11:00. The service will be officiated by her son and the Rev. Melody Johnson, chaplain at Porter Hills.
