Betty Louise Bayink, age 76, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away on November 9, 2022 at Saint Mary's Mercy Health Hospital.
Betty was born in Grand Rapids to John Bayink and Dorothy Bentley on February 28, 1946. She went on to earn a BA in Accounting from Davenport College. She served for seven years as a Finance Specialist in the US Army. She then went on to work for almost 30 years for the Salvation Army at their G.R. Homeless Shelter.
Although Betty never married or had children of her own, she had very close relationships with all of her local nieces and nephews. In addition, she had taken in two of her second nephews, Ben and Lance, raising them as her own children for approximately 15 years.
Betty is survived by two brothers, Robert (Sally) Sinnett of Lake City, MI; Ernie (Linda) Bayink of Rockford, MI; one sister, Johanna Bancroft-Deahl of Belmont, MI; brother-in-law, Fred Schmidt; nieces and nephews Charles Sinnett, Alicia, Rob Sinnett, Shana Curl, Christopher Schmidt, Sara and Brad Bayink, Kathy Birdsell, and Alex Bancroft.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents John Bayink and Dorothy Bancroft; brothers, Carl Sinnett, Donald Bayink, and Richard Bancroft; sister, Katherine Schmidt; and a very special niece, Jackie Cody.
Cremation has taken place per Betty's wishes and all arrangements have been handled by Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the doctors and nurses of the Hauenstein Neurological ICU at Saint Mary's Hospital, who had taken such good care of Betty over the past two weeks of her life.
